COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: DUNDAS

This week's community focus is on Dundas.

For those that don't live in the Hamilton - Dundas area, you may not know where Dundas is!

You're in for a treat because it is one of the best hidden in plain sight gems you will ever find!

Dundas is an amazing community to live in; from it's 19th century architecture, re-occuring movie filming, walkability, history of the town and amazing hiking trails, to its 'prestige' it is one of the most sought after places to live in the GTA.

Dundas is nicknamed 'Valley Town' because it is situated at the base of the Escarpment & not only do you get to view the escarpment, but you get to view the town FROM the escarpment its amazing !

With lots of historic 19th century architecture, many of the homes are over 100 years old and have amazing touches of history that can't be replicated ! As a result of this amazing look of the entire town, many movies have been filmed in Dundas such as The Hulk! In fact, my clients at 26 Baldwin (selling) have been approached 3 times since we listed their home two months ago to use their home to film a movie! The crews usually pay for a full temporary hotel stay for the home owners and pay up to a few thousand dollars per day ! So awesome !

Hiking trails are also in no shortage in Dundas! The Dundas Valley Conservation area is a 1200 hectare conservation area featuring spectacular forests and interesting rock formations. While there are many hiking trails at the Dundas Valley Conservation Area, the Dundas Valley Trail Centre is the focal point of the park. There’s a replica of a Victorian train station, complete with a train car on some old railroad tracks !

Dundas Peak, Tews Falls, & Webster's Falls are great areas to hike & see a great view! It was once a quiet place that only the locals knew about, and it’s become a wildly popular spot from out of towners. This happened for such a good reason: it has one of the prettiest scenic lookouts in Ontario that is easily accessible from the trails. You won’t need to hike too far to enjoy these beautiful views. Be sure to check it out!

The Rail Trail is an impressive 32km in length, and it’s one of the longer walks within Dundas and beyond. The trail extends between Hamilton and Brantford, and it’s a relatively flat trail the whole way. It runs through the Dundas Valley Conservation Area, the Bruce Trail, and several other trails.

Dundas Driving Park; It’s one of the main parks in Dundas (if not THE main park) where many families and friends gather! There have been many Easter Egg hunts held there, many reunions and parties ! It's certainly a community oriented area for sure.

Dundas has always been a hub for local artists. A number of musicians have come from Dundas (including Caribou, Junior Boys, a member of Elliot Brood, and others). In terms of classical music, you can hear the Dundas Valley Orchestra or the Dundas Concert Band perform at local events. The Dundas Concert Band often plays in the bandshell at the Dundas Driving Park. There’s also a thriving arts scene in Dundas! You can’t miss the Carnegie Gallery when you come to Dundas. It’s right in the middle of downtown Dundas in one of the most beautiful, historic buildings that used to be the old public library. The Carnegie Gallery features works by local artists and regularly hosts various exhibitions. They’ve also got a little shop with works by regional artisans, too.

And one of my absolute personal favourite things about Dundas is the walkability to downtown! Downtown Dundas is home to many delightful, locally owned (#supportlocal) boutique shops and restaurants featuring a variety of international cuisine. The main street is King Street West, although you may find a few hidden gems down the neighbouring side streets and alleyways. Wandering around downtown Dundas is one of the best things to do in Dundas Ontario (in my opinion)- you've got to check out the local small ma & pop stores as well as family owned restaurants !

This community & all these features make Dundas a perfect place to live, thrive & raise a family! If you are thinking about moving to Dundas, you have to be sure to check out my listing at 26 Baldwin St, Dundas before its gone! Check out my 'listings' page for details and photos; P.S. A local artist lives here & has made the home viral, tons of movies have been shot here & the home is part of the annual Christmas Tour ! an absolute gem!
